South Africa plays host to the 2010 FIFA world cup in 2010. Nations from across the world have taken part in the qualifications round and thirty two nations have come out the other end. The finals will be held from 11th of June till 11th of July.
This year South Africa will hold the 19th cup. The country has had a massive overhaul of stadiums, construction of new stadiums and around the main cities. The premier international football tournament is as big as the Olympic games with 204 nations taking part in qualifications.
August 2007 marked the start of the qualification process. Nations like Germany, Italy, Australia and United States have passed the qualification rounds.
In South Africa there will be ten venues where the soccer matches will be played. Roads to the stadiums have been vastly improved.
Thirty two teams have been separated into eight groups of four teams. The groups are labelled A to H. The groups are like so:
Group A: South Africa, Mexico, Uruguay and France
Group B: Argentina, Nigeria, Korea Republic and Greece
Group C: England, United States, Algeria and Slovenia
Group D: Germany Australia, Serbia and Ghana
Group E: Netherlands, Denmark, Japan and Cameroon
Group F: Italy, Paraguay, New Zealand and Slovakia
Group G: Brazil, Korea DPR, Cote d'lvoire and Portugal
Group H: Spain, Switzerland, Honduras and Chile
Only two teams can make it through each of the groups. The two teams will be the top two teams in each group based on points. Points are awarded for a win or a draw. Teams get 3 points for a win and a point for a draw. No points are awarded if the team loses.
There has been a lot of talk about how will win the world cup in 2010. There is a lot of prize money up for grabs from FIFA for the teams that win. $30 million has been allocated to the winner of the cup. Teams that exit the group stage get paid $8 million. Runners up get paid $24 million. There is a total of $420 million in prize money.
Spain is currently has the best odds of winning the cup. Brazil is closely second in terms of betting odds. England and Argentina are shortly behind in odds. So the current odds for these four countries mean that a lot of people are picking them as favourites to take out the cup. Since I am Australian, I am going to place my bets on Australia to take out the cup.
United States has pretty long odds at roughly 70 to 1. When it comes to choosing who will win the World Cup it is pretty hard because there are a lot of great teams playing. Every team is going to try their very best and put their best players forward.
I am excited that the amazing sporting event is going to be played out soon. I am going to support my favourite team Australia. There are soccer jerseys that people can sport during the cup event. Sporting a soccer jersey can show your support to your favourite nation.
In conclusion, Spain and Brazil are currently looking like favourites to win the cup. South Africa is going be the host nation and Germany who was the host nation in the previous cup finished up third. Will South Africa follow suit and do just as well.
Show your support for your team and country by grabbing your very own soccer jersey today: http://world-cup-soccer-jerseys.blogspot.com/
