Paraguay participated in its fourth consecutive world cup, thus becoming a habitual entrant of the competition. In South Africa, the Paraguayan team achieved the best place in history by reaching the quarterfinals, that was their previous planned objective. Nevertheless, everybody had the feeling that if Cardozo's penalty had entered in the match against Spain-they were 0-0, Paraguay would have become impregnable, passing to semifinals.

The fans valued the sacrifice and courage of their players, though they specially highlighted the figure of Martino, who performed an impeccable work in the whole coaching process. He is considered as a remarkable group's leader, and he evinced something of that qualification. Paraguay was one of the teams that put more players in the field. They put 20 players. Except for the two substitute goalkeepers, all the other players entered the field.

Paraguay made their debut against Italy presenting a caution plan, two lines of four, one at the back and another one in the middle. Afterwards, they recovered faith and placed three forwards in line and they made better moves. Paraguay 1- Italia 1 Then they had an excellent triumph over Slovakia by 2-0 and a tie with the hard New Zealand combination side. Once on the round of sixteen they finished 0-0 with Japan, in a match in which both had occasion of opening the scoreboard.

None surpassed Paraguay in the game that had only two goals, one from each champion-Italy and Spain -. Paraguay evinced good knowledge of the game and above all a great solidarity to work in midfield and the capacity that is always acknowledged to defend.

The Paraguayan team expected more from their forwards, that did not score goals in the world cup. It is also true that they did not get much help in midfield that lacked a more creative midfielder.

Paraguay is higher than ever in South Africa Soccer World Cup 2010.
