History

The first settlers in South Africa were the San people who spoke Khoikhoi and Bantu. The first European settlers where in the Cape of Good Hope in 1652 and they where the Dutch East India Company. By the 18th century this colony had increase to around 15,000, this colony were known as Boers or Afrikaners and their language was called Afrikaans which was a Dutch dialect. In 1795 these people tried to establish an independent republic.

In 1815 Britain took permanent possession of the Cape Colony and the Napoleonic Wars bought an additional 5,000 settlers to the area.

In 1867 diamonds were discovered and in 1876 gold which bought a large amount of people to the area. In 1912 the African Nation Congress was established.

Geography

The Atlantic Ocean borders the west of this continent and the Indian Ocean is to the south and east of the continent. Its surround continent and country neighbours are-

• Mozambique
• Swaziland

General Information

The current government is Republic and the currently President is Jacob Zuma and he's been the president since 2009. The current population is 49,109,107 and the growth rate is -0.05%. The total area is 471,008 square miles.
