Victory of Pakistan Hockey in 1994 Sydney World Cup

One of the most memorable wins for Pakistan in Hockey is the World Cup win in 1994 that brought to the forefront a hero - Shahbaz Ahmad. He went on to become one of the best forwards in the history of Pakistan Hockey. After having joined the national hockey team in 1986, he masterminded a great win - the 1994 world cup. Shahbaz Ahmad was nicknamed "the man with the electric heels" and led Pakistan from the front in the 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989 Champions Trophy tournaments; 1988 Seoul Olympics; 1989 Asia Cup in New Delhi; 1990 World Hockey Cup in Lahore; 1990 Bmw Trophy Amsterdam; 1990 Beijing Asiad and the most memorable of them all - the 1994 World Cup Hockey in Sydney.

The Hockey World Championships is determined to be an international field hockey competition just like Fifa soccer world cup where teams from across the world participate to win the coveted cup. It is organized once every 4 years by the International Hockey Federation (Fih). The first world cup was started in 1971. There are two versions of the Hockey world cup - the men's and the women's. So far five countries have dominated the Hockey world cup but the most flourishing team is Pakistan who has won it four times. The Netherlands has won the Hockey world cup three times, Germany two times while both India and Australia have won it once. The 2010 Hockey world cup is going to be held in India.

Worldcup

In fact, the whole conception of the Hockey World Cup was conceived by Air Marshal Nur Khan of Pakistan. The idea was proposed to Fih under the name of Patrick Rowley who was the first editor of the World Hockey magazine. The idea got the approval on 26th October, 1969 and was adopted by the then Fih Council in a meeting that was held in Brussels on 12th April, 1970. The Fih came to the conclusion that the inaugural or first hockey World Cup should be held in Pakistan in October 1971. However, due to political strife and any other issues, the venue of the World Cup was moved from Pakistan to the Real Club de Polo grounds in Barcelona, Spain.

The 1971 Hockey world cup in Spain was won by Pakistan who defeated Spain 1-0 in the finals. In the 1994 World Cup in Sydney Australia, Pakistan was up against a strong opponent - The Netherlands. The match ended in a 1-1 draw and went into extra time and then into penalties. Pakistan then went on to win the final on penalties and the score line read 4-3. This was the 4th world cup for Pakistan and Shahbaz Ahmad led them to victory in style. This supplementary reinforced Pakistan as one of the top hockey playing countries of the world. Shahbaz Ahmad also won an additional one laurel - the player of the tournament.

As the 2010 Hockey world cup date draws close, we will have to wait and watch out for the "men in green!"

Denmark National Soccer Team World Cup History

For decades, while the rest of Europe watched expert soccer players every week, it remained an amateur sport in Denmark. Interestingly, it wasn't until 1978 that players began to get paid to play.

When the sport was still at the amateur level, Denmark did try to qualify for the Fifa World Cup, but failed at every attempt. The side ultimately made their debut on the biggest stage in soccer in 1986. At that tournament, they won all three of their first round games, including a 5-0 thrashing of Uruguay. They made it to the round of sixteen before losing 5-0 to Spain.

Worldcup

They distinguished again for the 1998 World Cup held in France, and they not only made it out of the group stage, but they won their second round game 4-1 over Nigeria before losing to Brazil in the quarterfinals.

They next distinguished in 2002, when the team was known as the "Olson Gang" under Morten Olsen who had captained the side as a player in the eighties. He remains in payment today, although after his side failed to qualify for Germany 2006 he did think leaving the post, but was talked into staying on.

Denmark is also preponderant the world over for its loyal band of travelling fans, Roligans. The movement began in the 1980s as a protest against the hooliganism that was infecting European soccer at the time. The word roligan is Danish for calm, and that was the image the fans wished to project. Years later they match the Tartan Army - Scotland's loyal fans - as the keenest in the world.

Denmark won their place at the 2010 World Cup with a September defeat of Sweden. The team that will be heading to Johannesburg includes Juventus' Christian Poulsen and Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner.

Benefits of Hosting World Cup Soccer

The Fifa World Cup is an overwhelming international event held every four years. Fans from all over the world descend on the host country bringing with them an outpouring of color, passion, energy, and culture. The world game is a overwhelming accolade to the country that plays host plus the event holds much promise to global broadcast, tourism, and injection of millions of dollars into the economy.

Fifa the international governing body for soccer (football) requires the host nation to comply with detailed regulations and specifications along with security, transport, accommodation, training facilities, opening and windup ceremonies, marketing, promotions, ticketing, insurance, and other administrative matters.

Worldcup

Are there financial risks worth hosting such an event? Infrastructure issues (like airports, roads, stadiums, and social transport) for hosting such an event are usually among the major complications. When Athens hosted the Olympic Games in 2004, its allocation went from Us.6 billion to Us billion: Beijing in 2008 went from Us.6 billion to colse to Us billion. London's price tag for the 2012 games has blown out from Us billion to colse to Us billion. So far, South Africa is estimated to have spent Us billion and Fifa Us.1 billion on preparations before the kick-off of the 2010 World Cup.

Potentially millions of dollars from tourists are injected into small businesses, hotels, restaurants, souvenir shops, tours, and vehicle from hosting the Fifa tournament. However, the costs associated with a needful influx of visitors is the provision of protection to fans and all the teams, counter-terrorist activities, policing racial sensitivities, and purchase and premise of high-tech monitoring equipment.

The earnings from the sale of tickets to the games if not achieved would back fire on the host country as it may take years to recover the outlay for hosting such a global event. History will decide the success of hosting the Fifa tournament. The global exposure of this world event may advantage the host country and its local suppliers/industries in years to come.

The study of a Us economist on the historical taste of host nations since 1954 revealed that in 7 of the 13 tournaments since 1954, economic growth has been slower in the World Cup year than in the two years foremost up to the event. On the other hand, 9 of the 13 host nations since 1954 has shown faster economic growth in the 2 years following the event.

What the Fifa World Cup does is that it brings the world together through competition fostering cross-cultural interaction and international understanding. In a world plagued by wars, racism, and religious intolerance, the Fifa World Cup contributes to universal brotherhood, whose benefits to humanity is impossible to quantify.

Around 6 billion people watch the Olympics but this is pale in comparison to the 26 billion who is estimated to watch the Fifa World Cup.

South Africa is hosting the 2010 Fifa World Cup in June to July. The next Fifa World Cup will be held in June to July 2014 in Brazil, a nation who was crowned the world champions in 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994, and 2002.

Over Under Betting Explained - From the Fifa World Cup to Barrack Obama

Sport over under betting

There is a wide range of over under bets available on lots of sports. Goals in soccer, touch downs in American football, trys in Rugby, runs in cricket, points in ice hockey. The list is extensive. The bookie makes a prediction of what they think the corollary will be. The punter just has to pick if the corollary will go under or over, simple.

Worldcup

A new entrant into the sports over under betting market is sports spread betting. The spread betting firm makes a prediction of where they think the corollary of a game or match will lie. The prediction is called the spread. Spread punters need to settle if the actual corollary will be above or below the prediction.

Financial over under betting

Betting on financial markets revolves nearby the price of a financial asset or index of assets (like the Ftse 100 or Dow Jones). The range of financial assets available for betting is large. There's no time to cover them all here, except for the most beloved forms of financial over under betting. beloved financial betting markets contain betting on the value of an index of firm shares like the Ftse 100 or Dow Jones, the share price of shares listed on varied stock exchanges nearby the world or commodity prices like Gold or Silver.

The greatest way to bet over under on financial markets is spread betting. Spread betting is in itself a type of over under betting. If a spread trader thinks the price of an asset will be higher than the spread a 'long' spread bet it opened. Alternatively if the spread best believes the price will be lower than the spread a 'short' spread bet is opened. In spread betting language this is called 'going long' or 'going short' and is basically an over or under bet.

Political over under betting

Politics is like a sport in a way. Political parties battling it out for power. The party attempts to win 'the vote'. A vote is no different from a goal or points in a game of ice hockey. Bookmaker will offer over and under bets on number of votes. Elections and political campaigns create a lot of social interest and tend to form the bed rock of political over under betting.

Soccer over under betting explained

Soccer is very beloved with betting enthusiasts. As the number of soccer fans has grown so has the number of soccer betting markets available on a soccer game. Soccer over under betting is an determined candidate to help clarify how over under bets work in more detail.

What markets are available for over under betting on a soccer game?

Over under bets can be taken on the number of goals, corners and bookings points. Lets look at each in turn.

Goal over under betting

With primary bookmaker is general for the bookmaker to base their over under prediction on 2.5 goals. It's not possible to score half a goal, so the bet is designed to split view on whether there will be two or less goals or three or more. The bookie offer odds on the over or under result. Winnings are carefully by the odds, and losses are exiguous to the stake.

Betting exchange normally offer a wider range of goal results. It is possible to bet over under 1 goal, 2 goals, 3 goals, 4 goals an so on. What's more it is possible to bet that the over under goal corollary will not happen (called lay betting).

The situation is slightly different with spread betting on the over under goal market. Each goal is worth a number of points. For example, a goal is worth a one point. The spread betting firm predicts how many points will be scored. A typical spread would be 2.2 to 2.5 points. With spread betting the user bets per point rather than a fixed stake. Winnings can be magnified and so can losses.

Corner over under betting

The general over under angle predictions from a bookmaker would be more or less than 11.5 corners. The half angle is used in the same way as with the previous goal over under betting example. Hence, 11 or less corners, and, 12 or more.

Betting exchanges are slightly different in that there is more choice. For example, an exchange member might have the selection of 9 or less, 10 to 11 and 12 or more corners.

The principle of spread betting betting on over under corners is the same as with goals. A angle is given a number of points. The spread betting firm makes a spread prediction on the number of points and the user decides if the corollary will be over or under the spread.

Bookings points over under betting

A booking is worth a number of points.
A yellow card gets 10 points
A red card gets 25 points

Some bookmakers will do it slightly differently.

A yellow card equals 1 card and a red card equal 2 cards. The idea is the same. The bookmaker makes a prediction and population can bet over or under the prediction. normally odds are offered on total bookings points and the prediction is normally over or under 35 points or 3.5 cards.

There are more options if using a betting exchange which can contain an under 21 points, in the middle of 21 - 45 points and over 46 points results.
