ICC World Cup 2011 Theme Song Is Here At Last
The official theme song for the ICC World Cup 2011 tournament has been released...
I have asserted all along that Bollywood and cricket have a very close relationship, and this song proves just that. For the ICC World Cup 2011 theme song has been composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy (SEL), a Bollywood trio of music makers.
For the benefit of the uninitiated, SEL comprise Shankar Mahadevan, Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonsa, who have been among major music producers for Bollywood movies in the last decade.
Their best and most successful work has been heard (and seen) in movies such as Mission Kashmir, Dil Chahta Hai, Kal Ho Na Ho, Bunty Aur Babli, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, Taare Zamin Par, Wake Up Sid, My Name Is Khan, Karthik Calling Karthik, and Housefull, among several others.
The song is titled "De Ghuma Ke" which is an exhortation to players to give it all they've got, in other words, "Sock it to them",an apparent reference as to the competitiveness of sport and the desire to win.
Three versions of the song have been rendered, in Hindi, Sinhalese and Bangla, the languages of the co-hosts of the tournament, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
The song was released on December 31 on several radio networks, apart from ESPN STAR Sports, who hold ICC's Global Production and Broadcast Rights.
I hope you like the composition, because with 50 days to go for the tournament, you are going to be hearing this song again and again, and that's the understatement of 2011, on the first day of the year!

South Africa 2010 FIFA World Cup - All About Paraguay!
The Road to South Africa 2010!
From an Olympic perspective, Paraguay is a unique nation in the Western Hemisphere. Why? This landlocked nation is famous for its competitive athletes. Against all odds, by 1987, the Paraguayan tennis team made world headlines when they, led by Victor Manuel Pecci, defeated the United States 3-2. That day was very special for the South American country. But Paraguay has had other greatest performances in sport. Without the economic power of many Olympic nations, the FIFA 2010 World Cup will be the fourth appearance in the World Cup for Paraguay, a record in the world's developing countries. Since then this Spanish-speaking nation has been home to many top soccer players, including Casimiro Avalos, Jose Luis Chilavert, Roberto Cabanas and Julio Cesar Romero.
Country Profile: Paraguay
Paraguay is a Spanish-speaking nation located in the heart of South America. This landlocked country has an area of 157,000 square miles (406,752 km) and surrounded by Bolivia to the north, by Brazil to the west, by Argentina to the east. With more than six million people, Paraguay - about the size of California-- is among the most sparsely populated countries in the Western Hemisphere. At the same time, it is one of the most ethnically homogeneous countries in the region. Meanwhile, Asuncion is home to the country's capital city. By the early 1810s, Paraguay became one of the first independent nations of the world. Historically, the Latin American republic was a dictatorship until 1989 when the nation's ruler Alfredo Stroessner was overthrown by Andres Rodriguez.
World Cup Tradition
The FIFA recognized Paraguay as a member in 1925. In 1922 and 1929, Paraguay was runner up in the South American Tournaments in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) and Buenos Aires (Argentina). In the next year, by mid-1930, Paraguay was one of 13 countries to make its World Cup debut in Montevideo, Uruguay's capital. In this event, it finished eight, outpacing Romania, Belgium and Mexico. In the latter part of the 20th century, the men's football team competed at the IV World Cup in Brazil. Meanwhile, it became South American champion in 1953. Between June 3 and June 29, 1958, Paraguay ranked 12th in the global tournament in Stockholm (Sweden).
On July 27, 1965 in Luque (Paraguay), was born Jose Luis Chilavert, one of Latin America's top athletes in the 1990s. During that period of time, he had a great career as goalkeeper. He played for Velez Sarfield (Argentina), Zaragoza (Spain) and other foreign teams. Under the leadership of Chilavert, one of the nation's three most popular idols, along with Pecci and Augusto Roa Bastos (novelist), Velez Sarfield won many international titles, including the Copa Libertadores (1994), the Copa Interamericana (1994), the Intercontinental Cup (1994), and the Supercopa Sudamericana (1996). In 1995, 1997 and 1998, he was named as the world's best goalkeeper by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).
By the late 1970s, the men's soccer team placed second in the Youth South American Tournament. Subsequently, it ranked among the top seven teams in the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Tokyo, Japan. This team was the nucleus of the country's team for the Mexico 1986 FIFA World Cup.
At the FIFA 1986 World Cup in Mexico, the men's football squad qualified for the semi-finals and was one of the thirteen best teams on Earth. In the years that followed, by 1992, the men's soccer team qualified for the Barcelona Summer Olympics, where it finished eighth, ahead of America, Kuwait, Colombia, among other teams. In Spain, Paraguay was one of two teams that made its Olympic debut.
By the end of the 20th century, the men's football team took part in the global tournament and placed 14th. During that event in France, they beat Nigeria (3-1) and tied with Bulgaria (0-0) and Spain (0-0). In the next round, the hosts beat Paraguay 1-0.
By the early 2000s, the country, with a team that had been together over the years, picked up the ticket for the 2002 FIFA World Cup in South Korea and Japan. During the course of the decade, it finished a surprise second at the 28th Summer Olympics in Greece, the nation's first Olympic medal. Subsequently, the South American nation qualified for the 2006 global tournament in Germany and placed 18th, ahead of Poland and Croatia. In 2009, the men's football squad, won the right to participate in the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

World Cup Trivia
The 2010 FIFA World Cup will be a ball! Each year, the best soccer squads from every corner of the globe compete in the biggest sporting event on Earth. This year, the tournament will take place in South Africa, from June 11th to July 11th. Here are some fascinating facts about the tournament taking place this year and yesteryear:
1. The official 2010 World Cup Mascot is named Zakumi.
Zakumi is a humanized leopard with green hair. The name is a blend of South Africa's international abbreviation (ZA) and the word "kumi". In several African languages, the word "kumi" translates into English as the number ten. The mascot's colors, yellow and green, are also present in the center of South Africa's flag. Zakumi's birthday is on the South African red letter day: Youth Day. Also, Zakumi's birth date (1994) signifies South Africa's first nationwide elections that were non-racial.
2. Only two World Cups will have been outside the Americas and Europe.
The exceptions were in 2002 (South Korea/Japan), and in 2010 (South Africa).
3. Europe and South America have dominated the Event.
In fact, European countries have won the tournament nine times, while South American countries have also won it a total of nine times. Interestingly, a European country has never become a World Cup champion in one played outside of Europe. Unless you've lived your entire life under a rock, then you likely know that Brazil is one of the world's soccer powerhouses. So it's not surprising that the country has won a record five World Cup championships. But Italy is closed behind, with four championships of its own. Germany (West) is next, with a total of three World Cup titles. Meanwhile, Uruguay and Argentina both have a pair of championships. And finally, England and France have each won the tournament once.
4. The youngest and oldest players were 17 and 42 yeas old, respectively.
The youngest World Cup player was Norman Whiteside (Ireland), who was a mere 17 years/41 days old when he played in 1982. Meanwhile, Roger Milla (Cameroon) was 42 years/39 days old when he took the filed in 1994.
5. The top all-time World Cup scorer was a Frenchman.
In 1958, Just Fontaine of France scored a whopping 13 points during the tournament, averaging slightly over two points per game. The second all-time scorer was Sandor Kocsis of Hungary. Hungry for goals, in 1954 he scored 11 total points during the tournament, in five games. And the third all-time top scorer was Gerd Muller of West Germany. In 1970 he scored 10 points during six games.
6. Two players have scored in four consecutive World Cup finals.
Interestingly, both players scored during the same World Cups. Pele (Brazil) and Uwe Seeler (West Germany) both scored in the finals of 1958, 1962, 1966, and 1970.
As always, the 2010 Tournament will be a thrilling event. Besides watching the heart-pounding action on the soccer field, keep an eye on the record books to see if any records are broken.

History of Iganna Town, Oyo State, Nigeria, West Africa
History of Iganna Town
The Sabiganna of Iganna origin is traceable to Adebiyi, one of the grandsons of Oduduwa known as Onisabe.
After the demise of Adebiyi - the Onisabe of Sabe, it was the wish of the people that his son called Gandi Sabi Safa to ascend the throne of Onisabe but the kingmakers had the contrary view because he was not the heir of the Onisabe and they insisted that the first son of the Oba should succeed his father on the throne.
Consequently, Sabi Gandi and his supporter left Sabe (now in the Republic of Benin) and returned to Yoruba land, their ancestral homeland. He left Sabe with his two wives - Bolujiro and Oluorikan. Bolujiro begat Ajibilu while Oluorikan begat Alokolodo. Both Ajibilu and Alokolodo later ascend the throne of their father.
Ajibilu begat Etielu, Baya, Agunloye, Ajimati and Polajo while Alokolodo begat the Alokolodo dynasty.
In short, Gandi Sabi Safa after consultation with Ifa Oracle settled down at Iganna immediately after Ofiki river in accordance with the directive of the oracle but before he settled down, he observed a hut pitched by a man called Balako who was happy to lead him to Alaafin, the owner of the land. Gandi was pleased beyond words at the mention of Alaafin name that his father uses to tell him about before his death, that they were from the same mother.
This promted Gandi to meet Alaafin and narrated his story. Although he was welcomed by Alaafin but the Tapa war was his great concern. Gandi promised to spur his army into action to joined hand with Alaafin to fight the war and eventually won and brought the decapitated head of the Tapa King to the Alaafin.
Consequently, Gandi received the Royal blessing of the Alaafin who handed over staff of Authority known as "Opagun" and instructed him to install chiefs bearing all the titles known under the Alaafin and that is why the chieftaincy titles like Basorun (Bada), Asipa (Basipa), Samu (Basamu), Akinnuku, Lagunna, Gbonka and Agbaakin are installed by the Sabiganna till today.
In the old Oyo Empire, Iganna was known to be powerful. Then, for administrative conveniences, the descendants of Oranmiyan or the Alaafin were divided into four distinct families known by their distinctive dialects and forming the four provinces of Yoroba proper.
(i) The Ekun Otun or Western province which included all the towns along the right bank of the River Ogun down to Iberekodo. Iganna was the chief town. Other important towns were Okeho, Iseyin, Iwere-Ile, Ijio, Eruwa, Iwawun, Iberekodo, idiyan, Ibode, Igboho, Ipapo, Kisi, Ado-Awaye and Ibarapas etc.
(ii) Ekun Osi or Metropolitan province comprised all the towns east of Oyo; Ilorin, Ogbomosho, Ikoyi, being the chief town, other important towns are the Igbonas, Oro, Irawo etc.
(iii) The Ibolo province lies to the South-East of the Ekun Osi towns as far as Ede, Iresa being the chief town. Other important towns are: Ofa, Oyan, Okuku, Ikirun, Osogbo, Ido, Ilobu, Ejigbo and Ede.
(iv) The Epo (weeds) are the towns lying to the south and South-West of Oyo, the chief town of which was Oluwo of Iwo. Other important towns in this division were: Masifa, Ife-Odan, Ara, Iwo, Ilora, Akinmorin, Fiditi, Awe, Ago Oja.
Summarily, the word 'IGANNA' literally denotes wall fence in Yoroba language. The town is known and addressed as IGANNA and the title of the king as SABIGANNA because it captures and preserves the historical antecedents of the town on how Gandi Sabi Safa our founding father emigrated from Sabe in the present Republic of Benin as a result of chieftaincy tussle between him and his brother in the interest of peace. This accounts for why Iganna people are peace-loving till date.
History had it that Sabe was fence round with an entrance gate as it was done in the past for security reason. When Gandi Sabi Safa decided to migrate from the town with his supporters so as to avert pandemonium that could ensued because of the chieftaincy tussle between him and his elder brother after the demise of their father - Adebiyi, he considered it wise to escape through the wall fence with a ladder rather than to be declared security risk that could go out and reinforce to attack the town by security guards that man the main entrance to the fenced Sabe.
In an attempt to preserve this historical experience, Gandi and his supporters decided to name their new found land, IGANNA and the title of the king, SABIGANNA which is the coinage of SABI that climbed the wall fence (IGANNA) to escape with his supporters; SABIGANNA.
THE DEITIES CELEBRATED IN IGANNA ARE:
1. Egungun: It is always celebrated in the month of August of each year.
2. Sango/Odun Balogun: Celebrated in the month of September of each year.
3. Oosii: Celebrated also in September.
4. Odua: Celebrated in October.
5. Orisa_nla Ajobo: Celebrated in October.
6. Osun: Celebrated in October.
7. Oro Mojesi (always last for seven days): Celebrated in October.
8. Yante: Celebrated in October.
9. Ifa Tite: Celebrated in November.
The cultural heritage of the Iganna includes the Onko dialect of the Oyo tribe. The people are predominantly farmers. Cloth weaving (Aso_Oke) is also an occupation of the indigenes of Iganna. Apart from these, trading is also one of the ancient occupations of the town. According to history, the people of Iganna do trek from Iganna to Abeokuta, Ibadan, Lagos and other neighbouring towns/villages for the purpose of trading in the ancient days.
The Iganna people dress in all known Yoroba outfits. These includes Gbariye, Siki, Dandongo, Buba and Sokoto (males), Iro and Buba (females), with Sanyan Cap and Gele to match.
Hunting is another predominant occupation of the people of Iganna. The predominant food of farmers in the Yoroba tribe are also food of people of Iganna such as Oka (Amala), Iyan (Pounded Yam), Eko jije, Eko mimu, Lanfun (Cassava flour), with Egusi soup and other vegetables.
Fishing is also a paramount occupation of the Iganna, hence, the people are described as Iganna a fie yin be lu Odo... meaning, the people of Iganna do jump into river in a backward style for swimming.
Iganna people are also warriors according to history. E.g., Tapa war, Dahomey war during Alaafin Obalokun at Oyoro.

Delicious Types of South African Desserts
Here in the United States, we do not often hear about African cooking. This is a shame, because the recipes of Africa offer a lot of flavor and nutrition. Each African nation has their own great food traditions to share. South Africa is a country at the tip of Africa. It has a rich traditional food culture that you may want to check out. South African cuisine covers wild game, soups, stews, seafood, and desserts. The indigenous people built a wonderful cuisine around native foods. During the colonial era, many different culinary influences blended with the traditional foods. French, Dutch, German, British, and Indian cuisines lent their favorite tricks to create today's South African food.
Desserts like koeksisters (similar to fried donuts), mealie-bread and malva pudding are common in South Africa. Melktert, or milk tart, is a traditional custard-like dessert. There is more milk than eggs in this compared to European custards, giving the dessert a light texture and more of a milky flavor. Like many recipes from South Africa, this dessert may trace its history to the Dutch. The Cape of Good Hope was the site of a permanent Dutch settlement during the days of the Dutch East India Company. The name melktert is a combination of Dutch and Afrikaner. Melk is the Dutch term for milk and tert is the Afrikaner version of tart.
The recipe for melktert also has a history reaching back to Persia, where similar pastries were known as grasshopper wings due to the delicacy of the texture. Originally known as skilferkors, the recipe was first published in 1653. You can find many versions of this recipe online. Buttermilk pie, a recipe from the Southern United States, is very similar.
Recipe for Melktert
This is an old fashioned milk tart that is a favorite in South Africa.
What You Need
- 3 Tablespoons butter, melted
- 1 cup white sugar
- 3 egg yolks
- 1 cup cake flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 4 cups milk
- 3 egg whites
- 1 tablespoons cinnamon sugar
How to Make It
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Spray the inside of a 9 inch deep dish pie plate with cooking spray.
In a large bowl, cream the sugar and butter together until smooth. Add the egg yolks one at a time, blending them in until the batter is light and fluffy. Sift the salt, baking powder and cake flour and mix well. Add vanilla and milk and mix until well blended. Using a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until they form stiff peaks. Fold the egg whites into the batter. Pour the mixture into the pie plate and sprinkle the top with cinnamon sugar.
Bake for 25 minutes and then reduce the temperature to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Let the tart continue to bake for another 25 to 30 minutes or until the center is set when the pie is gently jiggled.
Serve the milk tart hot or cold.

African Violet Roots - The First Show
The First African Violet Show in 1947
Flower enthusiasts of Atlanta, Georgia, were spellbound by the tremendous interest shown in the African violet show held in the H. G. Hastings Co. showroom on November 8 and 9. The traffic jam in front of the Hastings store rated newspaper headlines and reports in the press told how extra policemen had to be assigned to keep the crowd orderly before the show opened. In a word, African violets took Atlanta by storm!
Considering publicity and promotion, it was by far the greatest, in point of interest and attendance, of any similar show ever staged in the South. There was also the greatest interest in club promotion ever seen in the Atlanta area, there being two African violet societies formed on the evening of November 8.
To get down to statistics, 203 persons exhibited 478 individual plants in the show. About 1500 people were expected to view the exhibition, and that number of cultural pamphlets were prepared for distribution among the visitors. A very conservative estimate, however, was that 8,000 people attended over the two days. Visitors came from 103 cities and towns in 14 states - Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Alabama, Tennessee, Florida, Michigan, Iowa, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana and Texas. Exhibits came from five states - Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, South Carolina and North Carolina.
The show committee adopted a classification schedule of eight main classes, based on color groupings, and 31 sections of named varieties. The eighth class, calling for "best collection of five named varieties in pots not over 5 inches in diameter," drew entries from both individuals and garden club groups. The details of the schedule are given in the accompanying table.
Among the many letters - from 29 states - asking for particulars about the show, there were a number inquiring if the rumored yellow African violet would be on display. Apparently hundreds of growers had heard of this elusive color but no one had ever seen it. As a matter of fact, however, there is no such color as yellow in the genus saintpanlia.
Mrs. R. H. Dobbs, Jr., of Atlanta, won the award for the "best entry in the show" with her magnificent specimen of Blue Boy. Mrs. Pat Crowe of Rossville, Ga., won the sweepstakes award for the greatest number of points, while Mrs. H. G. Carter of Atlanta was runner-up with just one point less.
National and local societies formed. Following a showing by Gates Dunn and Boyce Edens of a motion picture on African violet culture on the evening of November 8, the group began organization proceedings for both a national and a local African violet society.

1) First of all set yourself a budget for this world cup. In betting terms it is called as bankroll. According to books it should be the amount of money that will not affect you living if lost completely.
2) After deciding bankroll you need to decide the betting unit. It is the amount of money you are going to spent on each bet. The main point is to keep the betting unit constant. Generally it ranges from 2.5% to 10% of the bankroll. By placing the same amount of money you are minimizing losses.
3) Never play more than half of you bankroll at once.
Not everyone can be a constant winner and no one can teach you how to make a winning pick. But following basic principles of betting will definitely help you in maximizing profits and minimizing losses.

FIFA World Cup 2010 - Team Profile Germany
Germany's 6th place in the FIFA world rankings does scant justice to their pedigree and record that includes three World Cups won, in 17 appearances, the last one coming in 1990. But Germany's history in recent years has been a case of missed opportunities, whether at World Cups 2006 and 2002, or at Euro 2008.
In the qualifiers, however, the European giants performed to potential, twice putting it across Russia, apart from dismissing Wales, Liechtenstein and Azarbaijan.
The man to watch is Miroslav Klose, a crafty striker, with a prolific scoring record. Pudolski, midfielder-cum-striker, is another great prospect. Tragically, Germany have lost their star midfielder and captain, Michael Ballack, to injury, on the eve of the World Cup. They have another talented midfielder in Bastian Schweinsteiger, who will be under greater pressure of expectation, in Ballack's absence. They also have a great defender in Phillip Lahm. But German fans will lament the absence of Torsten Frings, from the line-up.
However, Germany should have little trouble heading their group D, the other teams being Serbia, Ghana and Australia. In fact, Germany hold a record of sorts, of not losing a single group game, from 1986 onwards.
Their first real challenge should be in the quarter-final, in the form of Argentina. If they survive Argentina, Germany are likely to run into Italy, in the semi-final. In Ballack's absence, Germany seem beset by an unsurmountable problem. But don't write them off; like true champions, they are given to rising to the big occasions.
